Caernarfon Camp Sites

Many of those who visit this picturesque part of Wales come here for the beauty of the scenery and want to wake up the morning surrounded by it. There’s no better way to do this than camping, and luckily there are many camp sites to choose from around Caernarfon and slightly further afield in Snowdonia.

One of the best is Cae Clyd Campsite which is located in Pontllyfni in Caernarfon’s Bay. It’s both a camp site and a touring park, as well as having log pods with double glazed windows for those who want something even more natural and slightly more permanent than a tent. It’s got a private footpath to the beach. Pets on leads and children are welcome here, and has communal dishwashing facilities, showers and toilets.

Silver Birches is a small campsite located midway between Caernarfon and Beddgelert. It’s great for those wanting a bit of quiet as there’s only 13 pitches and no children under 15 allowed on site. Hot showers are included, and well behaved dogs are allowed. The owners live on site so can help if there’s any problems.

Another potential choice would be the Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park. Being only two miles from the Snowdon Path it’s great for those coming here for the hills and on walking holidays, but still only five miles from the town itself. As well as offering places for your own tents and caravans they rent out luxury caravans. Children benefit from games room and TV room, and there’s free wifi available. There’s also fishing that’s free to guests from the River Gwyrfai that runs next to the site.

If you’re looking for a seaside camp site there isn’t anywhere better than Aberafon with its own private beach and boat launching slipway, along with 15 acres of grounds and 5 acres of pitches. Facilities here include showers, laundry, dishwashing area and a shop. Great for both peaceful atmosphere and family holidays.

Riverside Camping is a five acre camping site that’s family friendly and located within a loop on the River Seiont providing stunning scenery. There’s both standard and deluxe pitches for caravans, the latter having water and TV hookups. Of course there’s also tent pitches. The site includes a cafe offering breakfast and coffee, as well as sporting facilities such as a volleyball court, boules court, table tennis and toddler play area. There’s free hot showers, dishwashing facilites and even a launderette and wifi.

The Llys Derwen Caravan and Camping site is a great small camp site with caravans available for here as well as toilet and shower facilities.

Plas Gwyn Caravan and Camping Park is set within the grounds of the eponymous house near Llanrug, offering great views over Caernarfon and towards Snowdonia. As well as pitching your own tent or caravan, you can also rent caravans or timber tents and they have Bed and Breakfast facilities on site. Free hot showers for guests, as well as hair dryers, shop, laundry, dishwashing facilities and wifi. Pets are welcome here.
